How Haawal Flood Barrier Works
The Haawal Flood Barrier is a reusable flood protection system for municipalities, emergency services and businesses that need fast and reliable flood protection. Its self-stabilising design uses the force of the floodwater itself to create exceptional stability, without requiring anchoring or heavy equipment.

Adapts to Uneven Terrain
The flood barrier consists of an upright wall panel and a horizontal base panel reinforced by a support wire. As floodwater rises, the pressure on the base panel creates a self-stabilising effect that gives the barrier exceptional stability. At the same time, the flexible membrane extends up to two metres in front of the barrier and presses tightly against the surface, creating a secure seal even on uneven ground. Modules can also be angled to form curves and corners.

Haawal Flood Barrier is fast and simple to install without needing any special tools or equipment. Start by laying down the bottom panels, inserting the wall panels, rolling out the membrane, attaching the support wires, and finishing by placing a single row of sandbags along the membrane’s edge. 100 metres of Haawal Flood Protection can easily be installed within an hour, and dismantling is even faster.

Efficient storage and transport
Designed for efficient storage and logistics, the Haawal Flood Barrier can be stored compactly and transported wherever it is needed. The example shown here contains 100 metres of Haawal 90. Each pallet holds 16 modules, with all necessary components included in the toolbox.

The Haawal Flood barrier comes in three sizes
It depends on the expected flood level and your site conditions. The 60 system is best for smaller floods or diverting water, the 90 cm system is ideal for moderate floods, while the 120 cm system provides extra protection when water levels are uncertain or expected to be high.
Yes. Both systems can be connected and used together. This is practical if you have uneven terrain – using 120 cm sections where the ground is lower, and 60 cm and 90 cm where less protection is needed.
Haawal flood barriers are designed for long-term use. The protective membrane ensures that the frames remain clean after most flood events. Even if dirt accumulates, it will not affect the lifetime of the system. With proper storage, the barriers can be reused many times.
The 90 cm system is more cost-effective per meter. The 120 cm system has a higher price per meter but provides extra protection and flexibility. €348 per meter for the 90 cm high model, and €448 per meter for the 120 cm high model.
Not necessarily. The 120 cm system gives extra safety, but it also requires more storage space. Many customers choose a mix of 60 cm, 90 cm and 120 cm to balance flexibility, cost, and logistics.
We currently only offer the system for purchase, but as our mission is to make efficient flood protection available for as many people as possible, we are interested in finding a solution that can work for your needs. Contact us and we can explore some new possibilities together.
No. The membrane becomes contaminated by floodwater and must be recycled after each flood event. Once it has been used, you can easily order a replacement from Haawal.
Each membrane we deliver is 25 meters long and can be joined with new membranes with the waterproof tape we deliver. This means that the membranes can be connected to any desired length. The protective membrane extends up to two meters in front of the barrier, ensuring a secure seal against the ground.
Each membrane overlaps with the next section to ensure a continuous, watertight seal. This is ensured with a strong waterproof tape especially selected for the membranes we deliver.
