Training with The Haawal flood barrier in Niedersachsen
In September 2025, the State Fire and Disaster Protection Training Centre (NLBK) in Celle hosted a large-scale flood preparedness exercise in Niedersachsen. The training gathered emergency teams and disaster response personnel to practice different flood response measures under realistic conditions. As part of the program, participants trained with the Haawal Flood Barrier to gain hands-on experience with mobile flood protection.
From training to operational readiness
The purpose of the exercise was to strengthen overall flood preparedness and ensure that emergency personnel are ready to act quickly when water levels rise. During the session involving Haawal’s system, teams installed 100 meters of flood barrier in less than one hour, even with first-time users.
The practical training focused on safe handling, efficient setup, and coordinated teamwork under time pressure.

Made for real conditions
The exercise simulated realistic emergency scenarios. The Haawal Flood Barrier adapted to uneven ground without the need for permanent foundations or ground preparation. The modules can be stacked and angled to create curves and corners. A flexible membrane in front of the barrier seals against the ground when water rises, forming a stable and watertight defense.
The system was also used to create a temporary water basin, demonstrating its flexibility for firefighting and emergency water supply.
Stronger preparedness through cooperation
By training together, emergency services strengthened coordination and response capacity. The flood protection performed as expected and proved easy to deploy, reusable, and well suited for professional flood protection.
