Training with The Haawal flood barrier in Gera

The city of Gera in Thuringia has invested in mobile flood protection from Haawal to strengthen its flood preparedness. In September 2025, the local fire brigade conducted a flood response exercise where emergency teams, municipal authorities, and volunteers trained together on the installation and use of the Haawal Flood Barrier to prepare for future flood events.

From purchase to action
The goal was simple: make sure everyone knows what to do in a real flood. The teams installed the barrier under realistic conditions and time pressure. This gave them practical experience before a real emergency happens.

Made for real conditions
The training took place in an urban area with uneven terrain. The Haawal Flood Barrier adapted well to the surface. The modules can be stacked and angled to create curves and corners. A flexible membrane in front of the barrier seals against the ground when water rises. This makes it possible to use the system on uneven surfaces.

Stronger together
By training together, emergency services, city staff, and volunteers improved their cooperation. The exercise was successful, and the system met expectations under realistic conditions.
